If there’s one thing this week’s news proves, it’s that the people trying to drag LGBTQIA+ rights backwards simply never seem to take a goddamn day off.
As always, though, neither do we.
We’ve seen a powerful reminder of what visibility can do, with former NRL star Kane Evans met with an overwhelming wave of support after coming out as gay. Meanwhile, Australia’s Sex Discrimination Commissioner has been forced to push back against attempts to redefine women in ways that could harm trans and gender-diverse people.
We’re also following the latest chapter in the Mark Latham and Alex Greenwich saga — it is the story that never ends, we know, but we simply love to see Mark Latham being forced to pay queer people cold hard cash. And for something a little gentler, we’re sharing a beautiful story of trans allyship from Buffy star Anthony Head that reminded plenty of us why showing up for each other matters.
That’s queer life in 2025: defending our communities when we have to, celebrating each other when we can, and refusing to shut the fuck up no matter how loudly some people demand it.
Happy Thurs-gay! ✨

Former NRL and Fiji international Kane Evans has been met with an outpouring of support after publicly coming out as gay.
The first high-profile rugby league figure to publicly embrace Evans’ announcement was trailblazing former NSW Origin and Manly forward Ian Roberts, whose decision to come out more than three decades ago remains one of the most significant moments in Australian sporting history.
“But I was in tears watching Kane’s interview. Everything he was saying … I thought ‘this poor kid’, I know exactly where he is in his head, what he is going through, the extremes of uncertainty of your own sense of self and your sense of other people.
“Any queer person would absolutely understand what he is going through.

Former One Nation and Labor leader Mark Latham has lost an appeal against a Federal Court decision that found he defamed NSW independent MP Alex Greenwich in a 2023 social media post.
The original judgment, delivered in 2024, ordered Mr Latham to pay $140,000 in damages after the court found a post published on Twitter conveyed defamatory imputations about Mr Greenwich and exposed him to ridicule and contempt.
The appeal decision, handed down today, upheld the earlier ruling and rejected Mr Latham’s arguments seeking to overturn the findings.

Australia’s Sex Discrimination Commissioner Dr Anna Cody has condemned a private member’s bill that would redefine “man” and “woman” in the Sex Discrimination Act according to biological sex.
The proposal was introduced by Nationals MP Alison Penfold following the Federal Court’s recent ruling in favour of transgender woman Roxanne Tickle, who successfully sued Giggle for Girls founder Sall Grover after being removed from the women only app.

Anthony Head is being remembered not only for his iconic television roles but also for a deeply personal act of kindness towards a transgender fan that has resurfaced online following his death.
The beloved actor, best known for playing Rupert Giles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, died aged 72 from complications related to pneumonia this week, just six months after the death of his partner.
As tributes continue to pour in from around the world, one story shared by a trans fan on social media has struck a particular chord with LGBTQIA+ communities and Buffy fans alike.
